'I'm always on the look-out for inspiring homes to feature in magazines. I'd already featured Interior Architect, Merinda's Garrett's inner city Melbourne home in Real Living magazine, so she suggested we take a look at her holiday house in Barwon Heads, in coastal Victoria.
The little fibro shack had bags of charm, but the interior was minimal, so I sourced additional pieces to make the space feel more homely and magazine worthy.
I introduced the retro coffee table, vivid floral cushions, lamps and art for the walls, along with linen, throws and more cushions in the bedroom. I also sourced crockery, vases and flowers for the dining area and kitchen.
I had a great starting point, with Merinda's mid-century lime sofa, bohemian Moroccan rug and side tables, collected from her travels. A modern, round laser cut wall decoration from Kanvas Art filled the wall and added interest, without being distracting.
2 and hours from Melbourne, we arrived the night before with a van full of props, ready for a hectic shoot day. James Geer captured some sweet shots - one of my favs was an action shot of Merinda playing ball with her pooch. Afterwards I interviewed Merinda and wrote the words.
I love producing house shoots - a lot of work goes on behind the scenes, to edit, style, source additional props and find the best angles in a short space of time, but the hard work is always worth-while when we capture the essence of the home.'
Thanks to Douglas & Hope, Luft, Kanvas Art and Matt Blatt for loaning their products.
